New Habits
This is me trying to start some new habits. For instance, writing more. Both on this site and for comics and the stories that have been trapped in my head for what feels like ages. I keep a Google document on all of the different ideas, both great and dumb (dumb ideas have to go somewhere right?).
All of my comic artwork recently has been done in Clip Studio Paint check it out the more comic industry and artists I meet, it seems like this is the program that's universally accepted. The other obviously being Photoshop. While I love Photoshop and it's something I more or less used to design every day for years (before switching to Sketch and Figma). I was having a hard time shaking habits from design. Also, I've really been trying to keep my setup "mobile", so everything has to work on my iPad as well as my laptop/desktop. So for now, it's Clip Studio and Procreate for drawing...unless I'm doing traditional work that is.
The Why
I generally reserve Procreate for sketching and exploring ideas and I love its timelapse feature. Clip Studio Paint has one too, but it's something you have to turn on every time you make a document and it adds to the file size. Given that my WebToon comic file sizes are already kind of insane (in the realm of 300-500MB typically), I don't want to increase that too much more. Maybe in the future, I'll share some more of my process on how I go about creating comics and art in general.
My Clip Studio & WebToon Process
The usual process is this though.
- Write the script in Google Documents using ScreenPlay Formatter
- Sketch out thumbnails in Clip Studio
- Place Word or Speech Balloons and typography
- Get a little tighter on the sketches or "pencils"
- Use the Panel Tool in Clip Studio to tweak pacing
- Ink everything
- Color everything
- Final tweaks on art and add textures
- Upload and preview before releasing
Well, that's all for now. If you're looking for more ways to follow or check out what I'm doing here are a few.
Have a chill week.
