Recently I picked up Marvel's Avengers (PS5) to check out the new content updates and see how it is. I heard both good and bad things about it when it was originally released so I didn't grab it then. I don't know if it's because of patches or if it originally played like it does now, but it's a really fun game. Originally I thought I was going to be all in on Hulk, who is fun, but Thor really took me by surprise.
I really enjoy his skills and overall playstyle. He's got a really nice ranged attack, can fly, has an AOE, Ultimate makes him invincible for a little bit of time (and can be specced to revive team members or heal himself)...he just has a really fun kit. Oh yeah and lightning everywhere, who doesn't like lightning and particle effects all over the place?
Anyway, so I've been having a really good time with it so far, and usually when I'm enjoying something it kind of takes up space in my brain. Kind of just marinating in the background while I go about whatever it is I'm doing. So this sketch started out in Procreate while I was sitting in the BMV waiting for the youngest kiddo to get his driver's license. And started noodling on a few other sketch ideas that were more gestural and dynamic.

Old King Thor
Which lead to me thinking of an older "king" Thor. Let me start by saying, I've never really been super into Thor comics, but I really liked this idea of an older Thor that's been through the wringer and is now a little more stoic or humbled. Well...it turns out this is already a thing (of course it is). King Thor (2019) was done by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic a few years ago and now I have to go read it because it looks awesome as shit. From the looks and sound of this comic run, it also features Gorr, the Butcher of Gods, which if I remember correctly, is what the next movie will have as the main villain. Just check out the vibe on this, it looks awesome.
I'll most likely be sketching more random Thors as I keep playing. I haven't even checked out all of his in-game skins. Anyways if you're reading this, a few things. If you're playing Marvel's Avengers, who's your favorite character to play? If you've got comic recommendations throw them my way. Finally, have a great day, and thanks for stopping by.
If you wanna see me draw more stuff swing by Twitch and check it out. I currently don't have a set schedule, but once life settles down again I will.
