Black Bolt and Magneto Sketches

My basic morning routine is usually wake up, get a walk or workout in, shower, fix breakfast, and then sketch. Sketching kind of gets my brain really thinking and gets the productivity going before I consume any media like social media or podcasts. It's just something that kind of puts me in the zone before I get distracted.

A little work in progress of a Green Knight piece.

The Green Knight

I recently saw The Green Knight and was blown away by the cinematography and all of the different visual elements. It's been in the back of my mind since I watched it. Like most A24 films, it doesn't hold your hand and generally leaves you with more questions than answers.

New Habits

This is me trying to start some new habits. For instance, writing more. Both on this site and for comics and the stories that have been trapped in my head for what feels like ages. I keep a Google document on all of the different ideas, both great and dumb (dumb ideas have to go somewhere right?).

All of my comic artwork recently has been done in Clip Studio Paint check it out the more comic industry and artists I meet, it seems like this is the program that's universally accepted. The other obviously being Photoshop. While I love Photoshop and it's something I more or less used to design every day for years (before switching to Sketch and Figma). I was having a hard time shaking habits from design. Also, I've really been trying to keep my setup "mobile", so everything has to work on my iPad as well as my laptop/desktop. So for now, it's Clip Studio and Procreate for drawing...unless I'm doing traditional work that is.

Getting that traditional look

The one thing I find the most difficult to do with digital art programs is getting an authentic traditional look. Some programs do it better than others, but it usually comes down to a lot of factors. Factors like the brushes, canvas settings, how much you want to re-work, etc.

Back with some more traditional medium sketching.

Clearly from the image I always start with some pencils. They're honestly where I'm most comfortable and I would love to get this comfortable with ink. Figuring out how to make that switch in my brain to think in ink. This particular sketch is just out of my sketchbook. I think it's just a Strathmore with 90lb paper, also done with Microns and a Pentel brush pen (and a white gel pen).

A Little Sneaky Preview of the Next Episode of Myth.

I've been working on Myth for a few months now. I'm a bit slow to update, but it's because I've been really trying to hone in on the art more. The first few episodes I was more or less sketching and trying to learn how to color on the fly. Now I feel a lot more comfortable with the tool in Clip Studio so I'm slowing down and getting things tweaked to how I enjoy them.

Doing a little DTIYS challenge for WebToon.

I'm actually pretty new to WebToon and probably fall outside of the platform's typical demographic. Currently, the audience skews 60-65% female and 16 to 24-year-olds as the largest age group. I guess that is to say it's not the typical Western comic-reading demographic (this could be changing). Apparently, this is a huge deal for some even going as far as to say it's not a legit audience.
